How to avoid Last Supper Syndrome
Tell me if this is you:
- You stuff yourself all weekend long in preparation for Monday because starting Monday you’re going to be “good”
- You overeat every night because you keep telling yourself “I’ll be good tomorrow”
- You finish all the chips, cookies, candies, and ice cream in your house to prepare yourself for Monday time to be “good”
Essentially, you’re thinking: “I am going to eat this now since I’m not going to be able to have this in the future."
This well-known phenomenon is often referred to as the Last Supper Effect or Syndrome. You've likely experienced this before starting a new diet, because who knows when you'll be able to enjoy all those off-limits foods again! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Last Supper Effect is where you indulge and overeat when anticipating a period of dietary restriction.
In today’s podcast episode I want to share with you how even the anticipation of restriction can lead to an increased impulse to over-consume that food, often alongside feelings of lack of control. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
